Mountain Pass

High in the Smoky Mountains, up narrow, steep, and treacherous Roaring Fork, the wild thrashing thing that lived inside Mama and kept her restless seemed to me to finally be quieted. Perhaps it was overwhelmed by the mountains rising up on all sides, the dense sylvan splendor of the oaks, pines, and maple trees, or perhaps lulled to sleep by the trickle of the waterfall, “The Place of a Thousand Drips”, across from the pull-off spot where Mama had parked the Crown Vic. On the way up, we joked about sucking in to fit through the tree-lined road, leaned to the right to avoid tumbling down the bluff on the left, but the truth was we were exhausted from the tense vigilance of the drive. I sat on a flat rock next to the falls; Mama looked up into the tree canopy, circling slowly. Up here in the mountains, it was quiet enough to hear my own pining critter, waking slowly from deep sleep.

Please note that, due to the nature of hand-dyed yarn, no two skeins of yarn will be exactly alike. I recommend alternating skeins every few rows for projects using multiple skeins of the same colorway. If you order multiple skeins of the same colorway, I will do my best to select skeins that are the closest match.

I dye each skein with professional acid dyes and leave the yarn in the dye bath until the dye has exhausted before rinsing and soaking in wool wash. Minor color bleeding may occur on the first wash, especially with extremely dark colors.

Although I do my best to accurately represent each colorway in product photos, please note that the colors may vary depending on monitor and/or device settings.
